06/13/2002 Entry: "Update from Vigo"

Hello again from Spain! Jennifer and I have returned to Spain with a stopover in Vigo on our way to San Sebastian and Bilbo. Since the last update we dropped off the rental car and wandered around Porto for a couple of days, visiting such attractions as the Palacio da Bolsa (former centre of commerce of the city), the famous Majestic Café, and touring the port wine houses located in Gaia, across the river from Porto. We took the train from there to the charming little port city of Viana do Castelo, up in the northwest corner of the country. From the modern and well equipped youth hostel there we were able to spend some time on the beach and climb to the top of the city - 838 steps (plus uphill ramps) up a small mountain and to the top of a church dome overlooking the city! The hard part was going up. We depart on an 11 hour train trip tomorrow morning, so this may be my last update as a sane man.

As always, we are safe and well, and we look forward to seeing all of you again soon.

We love you both and we'll see you in July. You two are so lucky. What memories! They'll last a lifetime! And as Grandma Samells says, you can't take them away.
Lots of love,
See you in July,
Safe journey to both,
Nana and Papa

Just visited the website for the Majestic Cafe' and had a great laugh over the English translation! The pictures however look beautiful. Our company leaves tomorrow to go back to Germany -they had rented a van in B.C. and travelled all across Canada. Take care and enjoy your last two weeks! Can't wait to see where you end up next. Love from Virgil
